What do you do in sessions with clients?

In our first session, we will discuss your anxiety experiences and how they negatively impact your life.

In our second session, we will create a treatment plan addressing your goals. This interactive session requires your input and direction so that you can get treatment that meets your unique needs.

In our following sessions, we will identify the cognitive distortions behind your anxiety, positively reframe your stress, and find the best tools for managing your anxiety.

Do your clients receive assignments between sessions?

Yes, your homework is crucial to your treatment!

Homework can look like practicing a technique at home that we discussed in session, or it can be reflecting more deeply on a situation or question that came up in session.

Homework is not given to overload you; it’s to help you apply the techniques learned in session to real-life events.

What modalities do you use?

I incorporate testing, empathy, agenda-setting, and traditional Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (therapy that examines patterns of thinking, emotional responses, and behaviors).

My approach also includes client-centered therapy (where you decide what to explore) and solution-focused therapy (treatment that’s goal-directed and focuses on building solutions).

I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. Everyone needs help now and then.

You already have some strengths that you’ve used before that, for whatever reason, aren’t working right now. Perhaps a problem is overwhelming you, making it difficult to access them. In our work together, I’ll help you identify what those strengths are and how to apply them to what’s troubling you now.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

You can often find someone to do anything, but there’s a big difference between someone who has training and experience and does it professionally… versus someone who doesn’t.

A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way: teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself.

Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing your business.”

How long do I need to be in therapy?
Unfortunately, this is impossible to say. Everyone’s circumstances are unique, and the length of time needed to accomplish your goals through therapy depends on your desire for personal development, your level of commitment, and the factors driving you to seek treatment in the first place.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication are crucial to your success. After all, we only see each other for a session a week. It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you grow and develop.
My anxiety makes it hard to reach out and get started. What should I do?

I understand reaching out for services and beginning your journey to change can be nerve-wracking. The fear of the unknown is a common anxiety trigger. But ask yourself this question:

How much longer can you put up with being in the position you are in now?

Change doesn’t come when we wait for another person or another time.

Don’t wait. You deserve to feel better now! Give me a call: (539) 233-3850.
